POSTON NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Poston      Best Guess for Breed: Pomeranian mix

Best Guess for Age:  9 years as of February 2024     SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight:  14 lbs

Gets Along With:   Poston does well with other dogs. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested

Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here!

Special adoption considerations: Poston is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Poston is Looking For:  Poston ended up in the shelter due to no fault of his own. He was confused but told us he's closed that chapter and is ready for his new one!

He is oh so eager to once again have his own humans and to love and be loved. Sure, he's a senior dog but he's got pep in that step and is eager to explore the world with his new family after he has recovered fully from heartworm treatment. Sniffy walks and snuggles are high on his wish list, along with quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. And daily grooming and regular professional grooming - that coat mats easily, and that's painful.

At the top of that list, though, is knowing he's safe and under his own roof and where he belongs. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is there a Poston-shaped spot in your lap and your life?
