I'm The "Lucky" One -- My Journey Into Rescue

I adopted my best friend Nani “Fluffy Butt” Dempsey on March 24, 2018 from Lucky Dog!

However, life never goes according to plan and a few months after adopting Nani, I wound up getting seriously injured at work. I spent a lot of time at doctor’s appointments and going from a completely “independent adult” to needing help with daily things. It wasn’t easy and there were times were I felt like I didn’t have a purpose, but then I’d get that look from Nani or she’d bring me her favorite orange and blue ball and I’d be able to keep going. Nani was my strength during the most difficult time in my life and I knew then, that I wanted to help Nani’s “friends” so I signed up to foster.

It wasn’t until I got to foster #12, an extremely shy shepherd named Olive, that I realized that I wanted to do more. Olive was the dog that would be hiding in the corner and was easily overlooked. She was an incredible dog at home – we joke that she’s sometimes the easier one! So, I made it my mission to be a part of the process that helped someone understand why Ollie would be an incredible companion if they just gave her a chance.

I wanted to be the advocate for the dogs that were hard to understand or difficult to love and become an Adoption Coordinator! While I’m sure if you were to ask anyone what my “type” is when Adoption Coordinating, the first answer would be a giant floof! In which, they wouldn’t be wrong! But, I follow that closely with the dogs that need second chances…or two…or three. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my journey into rescue, is that sometimes the people need to be rescued too, and that’s exactly what Nani and Ollie have done for me.
