It was love at first sight! 

Upon moving to Arlington in July 2016, my fiancé and I intentionally sought out apartments that were pet friendly. Through our neighbors, we learned about Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and began following them on social media. It didn’t take long for us to start the adoption paperwork process, but it wasn’t until November when we knew we found “the one!” 

I still don’t know if it was Lisbon or the red bucket seats of her foster’s car that initially drew my attention at 6:21 AM, but I knew she was a winner. Lisbon was everything we wanted – a lab mix, dual-colored coat, and come on look at those eyes and feet! Although my fiancé was at work, I couldn’t get to the adoption event quick enough that morning to meet her.

I fell in love with her immediately and am thankful that I was able to convince my fiancé to drive out to Maryland the following day – let’s be honest, I would have taken her home the first day except for fear that a huge decision like that would leave just me and the pup, together forever, just the two of us! Just kidding.

When we arrived to the adoption event in Maryland, Lisbon must have known to turn up the cuteness – as soon as we arrived, she was found sitting crossed legged and asleep in her foster’s lap – seriously! Through the great assistance with Lucky Dog, we were able to take her home that day.

This November marked Lisbon’s one-year Adoptiversary! She’s just a sweet, lovable, and playful as the day we met her – if you see her running with friends at Clarendon and Shirlington Dog Parks go say Hi and she’ll be sure to greet you with a kiss!
