DUCKY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Ducky     Best Guess for Breed:  Chihuahua mix

Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of February 2024      SEX: Female

Approximate Weight:  16 lbs

Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. Due to her breed mix, we do not recommend her for a home with children under the age of 12.

Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area!

Special adoption considerations: Ducky is a truly Lucky Dog. Although she has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Ducky is Looking For:  A forever home! This small sweetie ended up in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks (down by their ankles!) and world exploration. Snuggles and cuddles are way high on her wish list, as are quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. But what she wants most of all is to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof for all her days - small dogs can live a long time and he's got a lot of good days ahead of her!

In exchange, she promises adoring gazes and tail wags and loyal companionship. What do you say? Does Ducky have a spot in your lap and your life?

What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster
