News & Updates
It’s been a year since we adopted Cheech into our lives. When we received her from the transport team she was a fuzzy puppy from the streets of Puerto Rico that was timid and unsure. It took a while, but she has blossomed into one huuuuuuge personality. She is a big talker with high energy, incredible intelligence and a slight stubborn streak. We joke and say that she could host her own TV talk show. She loves to run on the beach, dig and get dirty, and watch Animal Planet.
We are close to the end of our second year with our sweet Finley (fka Henrietta) and we couldn't be happier with our rescue pup. She's been a positive, loving addition to our family and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her. She's still very much a chewer (this part we hope she outgrows at some point), LOVES her walks and her milk bones, makes puppy friends easily and likes to let the squirrels and bunnies know who is boss. Last year we took in a homeless cat who eventually became a part of our family as well.
Buddy, came back to Lucky Dog after being adopted out because he tore his cruciate ligament (human equivalent: ACL) when he slipped on ice. This is when we found him, broken or not, and we had to have him. Due to his severe under bite, we found it fitting to rename him Bucky because of his buck teeth (or under bite....). Scheduled for a cruciate repair 1 week after we adopted him, he survived the surgery despite his heart murmur. Another week went by, and he unfortunately tore his other cruciate ligament. A few weeks later, he had his second cruciate repair on his other hind leg.
We have had Paisley for a year and a half now but we feel like she's been a part of the family for much longer than that. There was no period of adjusting with her as there are with most rescues, she was instantly home the day we adopted her. She is a confident dog that knows what she likes. Some of those things include people who pet her, human scraps whenever she gets them, doggie clothes for warmth since she has minimal fur, and other puppy friends. She has been able to bring out the puppy in our other adopted pibble mix, Jake. We've had multiple friends that
Slater, as in the world's #1 surfer Kelly Slater, (fka Marx) has adapted well to our home. He is beyond a sweet boy, and he has been trying to bond with our other guy, Finley.
We have decided to try and put Slater through Therapy Dog training based upon what we have seen in terms of his disposition. He has been accepted into training, and now has been given his own "In Training" vest from the hospital folks. We are encouraged by his successes so far, and he seems to enjoy it.
I was lucky enough to take home Bangles, who now goes by Charlotte (Charlie for short), and I wanted to give you a quick update and say thank you.
Charlie is the sweetest little girl, and such a cuddle monster! She loves being around people, whether to play, cuddle, or some mix of both. She starts purring before you even touch her and will make it well known if she thinks you're not giving her enough attention. When she's not busy cuddling under your arm, she's tearing around the house like a whip, treating every item in the house as her personal toy.
We recently adopted Sallie and Giselle and wanted you to know that they are amazing, we love them, and they are doing great. They are so far very compatible and play together wonderfully. They start obedience class on Sunday and we will take them through the CGC process. They are both smart, friendly, and utterly charming, and have been a breeze to work with on the leash and in their basic commands. Thanks so much for rescuing these perfect pups! We are so thankful to have them.
